Take a song such as “You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To”, and
it’s achingly romantic lyrics:

You’d be so nice to come home to.

You’d be so nice by the fire.

While the breeze on high sang a lullaby

You’d be all that I could desire.

Under stars chilled by the winter,

Under an August moon burning above,

You’d be so nice, you’d be paradise

To come home to and love.

It became an anthem for World War II soldiers about their
girls back home, but how many of them would feel the same if they knew that
Cole Porter’s inspiration for the lyrics came from his relationship with
choreographer Nelson Barclift?
